Last year Doug spent his birthday getting his kidney removed and I spent my birthday at work.... Lame. This year we decided to get wild and head to Las Vegas. It's only a 1.5 hour flight from San Fransisco and we hadn't been there in 5 years so why friggin' not?
Day One -
The flights went smooth and before we knew it we were in our limo headed to the Paris hotel. We checked in and decided to get some food at Nacho Daddy, check out the Bodies exhibit and walk around. Overall a pretty chill day one.
Day Two -
The next day was my birthday so we decided to cross a few things off my Vegas bucket list by heading to the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign. I wanted to get a photo with that sign last time we went to Vegas but there was a long line so we didn't bother. This time we had a taxi drop us off at the sign early to beat the crowd and that worked like a dream. We got our picture and started to make our way back to the Paris hotel on foot. While we walked north we stopped in every casino along the way to check them out, gamble, shop and drink. We also got to meet up with Doug's friend before heading to my birthday dinner at Hell's Kitchen!
Hell's Kitchen was awesome by the way! I got the 3 course meal and everything was super yummy! I was a little disappointed there was no yelling and I didn't see Gordon Ramsay but maybe next time.
Day 3 -
We decided to take a walk and hang out by the pool because we didn't have any plans until later that afternoon. After relaxing, people watching and soaking up the sun we headed to Fremont Street where we went to a local brewery called Bangers, ate at White Castle and headed to the Neon Museum. The tour at the museum was awesome and I totally recommend checking it out. The only bad part was we forgot our souvenir glasses we just got from Bangers! Oh Nooo! The museum said they would mail the glasses to me, but I'm still waiting. I guess I should follow up on that!?
Day 4 -
This is the day Doug got his birthday gift from me! A trip to Exotics Racing. He got to drive a Lamborghini Gallardo around the racetrack 10 times with an instructor and he loved it. After that, we met up with Doug's cousin for lunch that he hadn't seen in FOREVER at a place called The Yard House. That wound up being fun and delicious! This was the first night we didn't go to bed super early from exhaustion and we wound up staying up late gambling, drinking and winning money. How cool are we?
Day 5 -
Despite staying up past our bedtime the night before, we got up at a reasonable hour and headed to our reservation at the Sugar Factory. This marks another bucket item off our list. Our original plan was to get one of their awesome ice creams but we were so full from lunch we didn't have any room! I would recommend sharing a meal so you can save room for dessert! The portions were big enough to share and leaving the Sugar Factory without dessert should be a crime.
Next stop of the day was Omega Mart at Meow Wolf. I originally did not plan on going here but a friend recommended it so we wound up checking it out and I'm glad we did. It's kinda like an art exhibit, a fun house and drugs got together and had a baby. It was very cool and I would totally recommend it. I could try to explain it, but it's better to go and make your own interpretation of the experience.
Day 6 -
We had to be at the airport pretty early so we took our time packing up, took one last walk to meet Dougs other cousin to say hi and headed to the airport.
If you are traveling to Las Vegas, or anywhere really, check out Groupon! I used Groupon to book the Exotics Racing, Sugar Factory, Bangers, and Bodies Experience. That saved us a total of $128 on things we wanted to do and I had no problem redeeming them.
If you would like to hear more about this trip, you can also tune in to my podcast, where my co-host Megan asks me questions about this trip. It's available to listen below!
Overall this was an awesome Birthday trip! We got to do a lot of things on our Vegas Bucket List and check out some totally new things. If you have been to Vegas or want to go, let me know if you plan on checking out any of these places. OR if you have recommendations of what to do in Vegas, comment below!
