Monterey Bay

Doug did a little research and wanted to check out Monterey Bay.... so why not? It's about 2 hours from our house and he found a few things he wanted to do in the area. We jumped in the Jeep on a Friday afternoon and headed south.

First stop was to our hotel. The hotel was so awesome that we decided we were not going to leave it! We spent the entire evening taking photos, ordering drinks, eating food, lounging in our robes, hanging out in the hot tub and listening to music. It was a perfect way to start the weekend. I am working on a separate post just about out hotel... it deserves it.

On Saturday morning we got up and made our way to the Cannery Row area. We were a little early so we mostly had the place to ourselves. This is where they would can the excess sardines from the fishing boats. You can learn more about the history by clicking here. We walked in and out of all the little shops. Doug was super excited about the candy shops and I enjoyed checking out the beach. It was very chilly and windy. We later found out the weather stays on the cooler side all year round so make sure you pack warm clothes.

After a couple hours at Cannery Row we decided to head back to the hotel and walk to Fisherman's Wharf. By the time we got here it was lunch rush and it was very busy! We were ready to find a place to sit down and enjoy some local seafood with a view. Doug wanted to try Scales Seafood & Steak and that wound up being a great choice! We sat in a booth right at the window overlooking the water and sail boats. From our table we watched the sea lions and boaters passing by, we even saw a giant starfish in the water. Our waiter Sal was great and the food was excellent. Doug started off with a Bloody Mary complete with giant shrimp, olives and celery. He also got the Ahi tuna and I had the Red Snapper Tacos. Everything was super good and I was so full!I

After lunch we moseyed back to our hotel to watch a movie, hang out and rest. I think I may have even dosed off for a few minutes which is super rare because I never take naps.... like ever. Dinner time creeped up and we decided to walk to Sapporo Steak Sushi Japanese Restaurant, and . This place was also very busy! We decided to wait at the bar until our hibachi table was ready and have a few drinks. When our table was finally ready we got sat next to a very rowdy bunch of girls who had also been at the bar and let me tell you .... they were fired up! I was next to the drunkest girl and she was super talkative. She was there to celebrate one of the other girls birthday, and she plants cauliflower for a living. The group was very entertaining to say the least. At one point I thought they were going to get kicked out because birthday girl stuck an egg in between her boobs, stood up, and shook her boobs violently. That eggs stayed in there though ... very impressive! Anyway, the soup and salad was good. Doug got Salmon and Scallops, I had the shrimp hibachi. No complaints about this place. After dinner we walked back to our hotel for more drinks, and jacuzzi time.

Sunday was Easter morning and I woke up feeling like complete poo. I felt super nauseous and honestly I just wanted to go home. I was hoping if I ate some McDonalds I would feel better because Doug really wanted to drive down "17 Mile Drive" in Pebble Beach. So we swung by McD's and headed to the scenic route. The first couple stops I still felt icky but by the time we got to the beach I was feeling much better. It is $10.75 to get on the route and the drive consists of 17 stops around Pebble Beach. The stops are so beautiful and I am so happy we didn't miss this. We really enjoyed the Pebble Beach Visitor Center too!

After the drive we had some good ole fashion Taco Bell and headed home. Overall the weekend was ahhhh-mazing! We basically stayed in an awesome hotel, ate a lot of good food, drank a lot of alcohol and saw the most beautiful sites. It was a really great trip and I'm so thankful!

Stay tuned for my next blog about our stay at the Monterey Marriott!
