This week we are headed to Jacksonville Florida for a quick visit and I am already getting into pre-packing mode. Here are a few things I like to do the week before getting packed up. I've also included a FREE printable checklist below!
Laundry - I would totally recommend washing all of your clothes a couple days before you plan on leaving. There is nothing worse than going to pack and realizing you only have one pair of clean underwear. Having everything cleaned and organized makes packing less stressful, you'll have more options available and your clothes will be fresh and smelling good!
Dishes - Is this just me? I like to clean a lot before a trip and dishes is one of those must do things. You do not want to come home to dirty, smelly, dishes. Which leads me to my next pre-packing tip.
Trash - Take all the trash out of the house the night before you leave. It's another smelly thing you don't want to come home to. Trust me!
Pets - If you have pets and you are not bringing them with you, make arrangements for them a week or two in advance. Luckily we have a cat who enjoys her alone time so all we do is clean the litter box, fill up her water bowl and put food in the automatic feeder. The automatic feeder has been a game changer for our everyday lives as well as when we travel. I will link the feeder we use HERE
Unplug - Did you know your appliances cost you money when left plugged in? If you're not home, I would recommend unplugging as much as you can the night before. Things like lamps, computers, TV, and toasters won't need to be plugged in. Just don't do anything crazy like unplug your refrigerator or Wifi!
Food - A week before your trip make sure you stop buying extra perishable food items. This will prevent you coming home to a refrigerator of expired food that will have to be thrown out, and wasting your money!
Water The Plants - Depending how long you will be away you might want to make sure you water your plants before you go, or make arrangements for someone to do it for you while you are out of town.
Prescriptions - If you require medication or just like to take supplements, it's a good idea to make sure you have enough to bring with you and bring a little extra! You never know if you might run into delays. So head to the pharmacy before your trip.
Clean up - Everybody everywhere! Everybody do your share! Again, this may be a personal preference but I really like to come home and relax, not clean! So if you have time I would recommend doing a nice clean up before you go.
Thermostat - If you are one of the many people who have a programable thermostat this tip is for you! Set that temperature to save you money while you are away. There is no need to keep the climate extra cold, or hot if no one is there to enjoy it.
And those are my tips! If you have any tips you would like to share, let me know in the comments below! If you would like a FREE Pre-Packing Checklist just fill out the for below and it will magically appear in your inbox!
