Big Sur Day Two

Updated: Jun 29, 2021

If you haven't already checked out the blogs Big Sur Day One and Our Night in Pismo Beach then go check them out and come right back... I'll wait. Oh good, you're back! Now that you're caught up, let's get this day two party started.

After we left Pismo Beach we headed north on CA-1. Our goal was to finish the list of 12 stops and see some waterfalls! This brings us to stop number nine and our first stop of the day. Our original stop on the list was to go to a giant castle on the top of a mountain... but it was closed. Very sad.

9. Ragged Point

If this sounds familiar, it's because it is! We decided to stop here again to drop the top on the Jeep and because of the bathroom! Hey, bathrooms are hard to come by on this highway. We actually paid $4 to use a bathroom on this trip, which I will get to soon.

10. Salmon Creek Falls:

We really wanted to find some waterfalls and go on another hike so our first stop was to Salmon Creek Falls. We actually stopped here on day one but weren't sure how far it was, or how difficult it was going to be. We decided to wait and come back after some research with fresh legs. Well let me tell you it was harder than I thought it was going to be but it was awesome! We came here early and got the place to ourselves. It's full of giant rocks, a stream, waterfalls, caves and natural swimming pools.

11. Gorda

This is where we stopped to use the potty and saw a sign that said something to the fact that the restrooms are for paying customers only or you can pay $1 to use it. Doug decided that if we were going to pay money, we were going to get some candy out of the deal because he is a genius. We wound up getting $4 in candy so we could use the potty. Shortly after this stop, down the road a little ways, we decided to get out and go for a walk down one of the many trails off the highway. We found ourselves right next to a cliff side beach where the water splashes against the huge rocks. It was really beautiful.

12. McWay Canyon

This was our final stop of the trip. It's a quick walk down a path, through a tunnel, and out to see McWay Falls. This waterfall falls down to the beach and into the ocean. It was a very busy spot by the time we got there around 11:30.

During our trip back home we had passed some of the other spots we visited early on day one. I am so thankful we stopped early because they were so packed! Traffic was backed up, people were everywhere, and no parking. I would recommend hitting the road early unless you don't mind a crowd. It is a one lane highway down the entire coast and there are not many places to safely pass due to the windy roads.

Overall it was an EXCELLENT trip! One of the most beautiful places I've been to for sure. Like many places, we would love to come back here. Our next trip may be to Lake Tahoe for some fun in the snow, so stay tuned!

Would you like to visit Big Sur? Have you been, if so where did you go? Let me know below!
